The City of Port Arthur is preparing for the assessment and redistricting of city council district lines. In Tuesday's Regular Meeting of the Port Arthur City Council on February 1, plans for redistricting were presented by Val Tizeno, City Attorney; and Attorney Gunnar Seaquist, who addressed the city's approach to redrawing city council district lines as affected by the results of 2020 Census Decennial count.
Proposed Resolution approved by Council : P.R. 22348 "...WHEREAS, this City Council of the City of Port Arthur has certain responsibilities for redistricting the City’s councilmember districts under federal and state law including but not limited to Amendments 14 and 15 to the United States Constitution, U.S.C.A. and Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, 52 U.S.C.A. §10301; Part 1, Art. III, §1-2 of the Charter of the City of Port Arthur, Texas; and Tex. Gov’t Code Ann. §§ 2058.001 and 2058.002..."
