[ARCHIVED] Point in Time Count

The City of Port Arthur's Grants Management Division, in conjunction with Texas Homeless Network (THN) met on yesterday to take a count of the homeless in our city. But that is not all. Volunteers were also able to give out supplies of toiletries, information, and resources in this "Point in Time" (PIT) count effort. City staff and community members were trained in two sessions facilitated by City staff, and representatives from the Texas Homeless Network (THN) provided the training before volunteers could participate in the count event. The groups met at 10:00 AM, for the first count, and then again at 5:30 PM, for the second phase. From last year, the number of homeless individuals has actually doubled, for an approximate count of 60 individuals. The Point in Time Count is significant to all citizens, as well as to the services that the City and THN may provide.
