Port Arthur Reports First Death Related to COVID-19 for the City of Groves

September 22, 2020

It is with great sadness that the City of Port Arthur and Jefferson County Health Departments are reporting a COVID-related death in a resident of Groves.  The individual was a White male between the age ranges of 75-80, and he was reported as having underlying health conditions. This is the first COVID-related death reported for the City of Groves.

We emphasize again that COVID-19 is a very serious disease. While 80% of individuals who contract COVID-19 will have mild to moderate symptoms and fully recover, they may spread the disease to people who are at high risk. The elderly and people with underlying health conditions or weakened immune systems are at a much higher risk for developing serious complications from COVID-19. We strongly advise at-risk individuals to minimize contact with others who are ill and practice social distancing and wear a mask when in public.
