NOTICE FROM THE PORT ARTHUR HEALTH DEPARTMENT

THE PORT ARTHUR HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORTS COVID-19 RELATED DEATH, GROVES, TX and a MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

November 18, 2020

COVID-19 RELATED DEATH FOR GROVES

It is with great sadness that the City of Port Arthur Health Department is reporting a COVID-19 related death in a resident of Groves.  This individual was a White Female between the age range of 75-80.  It has been reported that the individual had underlying health conditions. The health department has reported five (5) COVID-19 related deaths for Groves since the beginning of this pandemic.

We emphasize again that COVID-19 is a very serious disease. While 80% of individuals who contract COVID-19 will have mild to moderate symptoms and fully recover, they may spread the disease to people who are at high risk. The elderly and people with underlying health conditions or weakened immune systems are at a much higher risk for developing serious complications from COVID-19. We strongly advise at-risk individuals to minimize contact with others who are ill, practice social distancing, and wear a mask when in public.

Message from the Director of Health:

I would just like to remind the public that we are still in a Pandemic and the importance of keeping themselves safe by following the public health protocols.  The mask mandate is still in effect and people should still wear a mask when they are in public places where social distancing is not available.

Many people are recovering with no problems or complications, but this virus could be and has been fatal for some people with underlying health conditions.  The Health Department has partnered with Gulf Coast Health Center to provide free testing for residents of Port Arthur.  Residents should call the COVID number at (409) 983-8880 for a referral for testing.  Remember, it is not necessary to have symptoms in order to get tested.
